Liz Leyshon was born and grew up in Glastonbury where her parents ran a print business and shop, Pat Li Shun, at the top of the High Street. She worked in London for five years in the 1970s, and in the arts for over thirty years, with twenty four years as manager of Strode Theatre and Cinema in Street. On her retirement in 2017 she was elected as one of the two County Councillors for Glastonbury and Street, and in 2019 she was elected to Mendip District Council. Following the move to a unitary authority in April 2023, she became Deputy Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Resources and Performance.
As well as her involvement in the arts, Liz has lifelong interests in the Somerset countryside, architecture and heritage.
